My son and I are very interested in coming out and joining in the fun. Neither of us have ever done pb, so we are looking for some guidence.
I have been looking at Tippmann 98 Custom Platinum, JT Stealth Tactical Scenario, Spyder MR2 ($119.00), Diablo Mongoose II LCD BBS w/ Eyes (what the heck are 'eyes'?), any suggestions? Would there be any equipment to try out at the field before we purchase? any used available?
Any help for a couple of newbes would be great, thanks.

Welcome and definately come out and join the fun. As far as markers/guns go, I would say that it is personal preference. Before buying, I would suggest coming out and take a look at what everyone at the field is using and see if anything catches your eye. All of the stuff you mentioned are good for starting out, but I bet Rod could probably order you something for around the same amount of $$ and you would end up with a much better product in the end and long run.
Also check the Buy/Sell/Trade part of this forum, there is usually someone selling used markers and equipment. Or just talk with everyone at the field to see who might be selling something. |

Welcome Brusea!
I know you guys are going to have fun out here. A couple tips: If you bring your son out, either you or your wife needs to stay at the field while he plays. Or better yet, hop in and play too! And be sure to print out a release for him so he can jump right in without having to read and sign forms on site.
Here's the link to the release:
http://bwrpaintball.innovative-websolutions.com/release.asp
And I'm going to take this opportunity to plug the "About Us" section, even though you sound like you've already read it. There's lots of good info there for first-timers. _________________ -Zen

Welcome to the site, hope to see you guys out there soon! Like everyone else said, come out and play and see what you like as far as gear and then you can make a good informed decision on what you want to go with.
BTW-"Eyes are used to detect whether a ball is present or not. In a marker, the eyes will keep the gun from shooting until a ball is fully loaded into the chamber." This prevents breaking balls in the marker. _________________ Just walk it off! |

Rob and I will definitely being playing together and I will have the form ready. The wife says she will bring him out on the first to check things out, look at equipment, etc. I’ll be there on the 15th.
I’ve been digging around in the forums and maybe I just haven’t seen it yet, but is there a forum for “What Equipment Are You Using”? peeps could list what they have and what they like/dis like about it, just a thought from a total noob.
Thanks for the info on eyes, that was really bugging me. |

Welcome to the forum. We all shoot alot of different markers, I have about 12 different loaner guns for you guys to play with and try out for nothing! I recommend coming out and playing a couple of times before you by. I have 98s spyder style markers, even a auto cocker hidden in there, so if you buy something it will be just as good as the ones I will loan you. You can also try some of our markers. I will walk you through the pros and cons of alot of different markers that are out there. I shoot only Auto Cocker markers, use Halo feeders and run the marker on compressed air See ya there. Call me Rod if you want 422-1757 . _________________ CK UR BARREL PLAYER!! NO INSIDE UR BARREL!!! |

hi guys and welcome. this is a great sport and is very addictive, I am glad you chose to come play with us, and I can honestly say that this is one of the best groups of people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting/ shooting. (lol) I have a friend that is trying to sell a spyder MR2 , a Smart Parts Ion, and a very nice semi-auto autococker if you have any questions about them feel free to write me or call @ 229-393-8192 and my name is brian. Also rod is very good at finding guns for you and helping find a gun that is right for you. tose guns also come with a HPA tank and a Halo loader. _________________ HE WHO THROWS DIRT LOSES GROUND!!!! |

Good decision, trust me, even after you come out and play with several different markers, you will eventually pick one you like and it never fails but you will think shortly after buying your first one, that you shouldve bought that other one lol....thats the way it happened with me at least. I also shoot an autococker myself but i use an old revvy hopper since mine is only semi....but it is dead on accurate. _________________ Just walk it off! |

Brusea, it goes about like every other hobby or sport these days, you can spend a reasonable amount and get great working equipment that is reliable or you can go way overboard and spend alot. As most will agree, I am in the way overboard category and have spent quite a bit of $$$ on some of my equipment.
I started with a Tippman 98, then Tippman A5, then AGD TAC1, and have had several markers throughout the past couple years. Now I have some high end markers that I play with. They have their advantages and disadvantages just like anything. I would suggest starting with some reasonably priced and good product line that if for some reason you do not continue playing you are not out a lot. However I do not know too many people that get to playing that hate it. I have to agree with Brian that it is addicting, and it makes it a lot better when you play with a good group of people, as we do.
I know of some used markers that you would probably be able to get for a good price and I still have one of mine that I am selling. I usually always bring it to the field and you are welcome to give it a try. |
